asterism

dimensions varied
asterism is a mobile installation created and exhibited for Playground, Tropical Lab+ 2024, a five-day workshop by LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. inspired by memories of nursery mobiles, i assembled pieces from my ongoing illustration series STAR etc. to encourage audiences to move between the starry shapes in childlike play. spraypainted in white and black on each side, each cardboard form turns more visible and invisible with every slow, dreamy rotation.

bodies of water pool towards the ground before they are stilled by sunlight.
岁月湛湖 (river under the light) marks the first chapter in my explorations of cyanotype printing, early 2024. after weeks of experimentation on various sizes and surfaces, i tore out a long sheet of rice paper on a hot january afternoon. in equal amounts of cautious and careless choreography, i splashed layers of cyanotype solution and water onto the fragile surface. i held my breath. the paper crinkled, and the solution formed puddles on puddles of water. as i watched the piece dry, it appeared as a body bigger than my own.
in imitation of waterfalls, each piece is hung at a varying height and angle in the gallery space. the open windows are reminiscent of the meditative process; giving birth to nature with nature - sunlight and time.
