Supernova

2023-2024
oil on canvas
40cm diameter
Supernova observes the fragility of identity. inspired by concepts and writings of the inner child, the image for this painting came almost instinctually – an ambiguous figure witnessing a star’s brilliant death, cradling it gently in its hands. the surreal composition is left open for two main narratives; the first of being birthed anew, and the former a letting go, allowing a past self a swan song. as i engaged in a slow process of applying thin and intricate layers of colour, i hoped to facilitate an intimate space for conversation between our past and present identities, as well as reconciliation with our inner child.

spilled light is an ongoing series of paintings interpreting sunlight that leaks through the gaps of leaves.
observing light and shadow through the movements of swaying trees, i explore ways of capturing my subjective perception of this ordinary scene. through the layering of colours and textured brushstrokes, i seek to imbue indescribable emotions and capture the experience of witnessing nature and the uncontrollable.

From winter’s embrace

oil on canvas
150 x 120 cm

a blue forest’s branches grow from a cold, soaked darkness. drips of paint crawl up the canvas, navigating feelings of vulnerability and self-discovery. rising towards the sky, new identities are birthed from our diverse yet alike experiences.
through subtle and regulated, then jagged and unrestrained textures, From winter’s embrace embodies a phase of exploration and conflict between self and environment.

blue
oil on canvas
82.28 x 82.28 cm
originally an underpainting, thin layers of paint were applied instinctively and left untouched. expressing feelings of solace i attach to the colour blue, and an unexplainable sense of loneliness i felt as i painted, a space is birthed from catharsis, ever-shifting yet at ease.
