Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis examines the fragility of the human body. reminiscent yet distinct from a clinical x-ray, each print displays a rigid organ moulded and malleable. as the melting spine grows, it transforms further and further away from our reach.

Documentations of being expands on my explorations of the fragility of identity, through a collection of continuously emerging bodies of ink and water. each similar and unique sequence of prints documents an identity as it develops, continually shaped by its ever-changing environment.

observe organisms in transformation. budding, writhing and dwindling, life evolves ceaselessly.
ontogeny is a collection of monotype prints made in succession. inspired by the forms of human and animal embryos in development, i dab and erase ink in an endless, orchestrated dance, producing a sequence of microscopic and celestial movements.

exhibited in Tropical Lab+ 2023 at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore
working with the 2023 tropical lab+ theme “Emergency”, emergeré documents processes of emergence across identity, space and nature. exploring the birth, growth and unearthing of imaginary doors, bodies and emergent plants, i used this programme as an opportunity to construct a playground for monotype printmaking, experimenting with various surfaces and textures.

fragility ventures into ideas of youth; self-discovery, blooming, and wilting in dreams.
the flower in bloom, like youth, is vulnerable and shortlived. vivid flowers, detailed in collagraph, are imprinted onto coarse and misty backgrounds. the unpredictable monotype prints form the backing of each intricate blossom, creating surreal images that examine how an identity is susceptible to the changes and influences of its volatile environment.
